President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, has appealed to private sector players in the agriculture value chain to join hands with his government in order to achieve a self-reliant Ghana together.

Addressing a ceremony to formally commission the OMNIFERT Fertilizer Company in Dawhenya, Community 25, President Akufo Addo encouraged private sector players across the agriculture value chain such as improved seeds & fertilizer companies, and companies engaged in agriculture mechanization, irrigation and water management, warehousing, food manufacturing and processing, logistics, cold storage and transportation, information technology and Telecommunications, to join hands with government and play their part in achieving a ‘Ghana Beyond Aid.’

“I have great confidence in the Ghanaian sense of enterprise, creativity, innovation and hard work. I believe firmly that given an enabling atmosphere, the sky is the limit for us. The promoters of OMNIFERT provide the evidence,” President Akufo Addo said.

Fertilizer Blending Initiative

In his statement, President Akufo Addo commended the management of OMNIFERT for helping Ghanaian farmers in the application of correct amounts of fertilizers in the farms.

“I am reliably informed that OMNIFERT is not only supplying fertilizers to farmers but is also blending fertilizers locally and offering the right blends to farmers according to their crops and specific soil types. You must be commended for this initiative. It will surely help create jobs for those of our youth interested in agriculture and will increase productivity in our farms,” the President noted.

The Group Managing Director

The Group Managing Director of the OMNIFERT Fertilizer Company, Michael Zormelo, in his address indicated that the first phase of the OMNIFERT project, which was up for commissioning, employs about 400 Ghanaians. He said he was hopeful that with the completion of the second phase, the company is looking forward to employing 500 Ghanaians. He pledged his company’s commitment to helping government to achieve her objectives set for its Planting for Food and Jobs initiative.

“We at OMNIFERT pledge to contribute our quota to the Planting for Food and Jobs agenda initiated by the government of Ghana,” Mr. Zormelo said.

The OMNIFERT Fertilizer Factory was established in the year 2017. The company sprung out of Omni Energy Limited which is the parent compary. Omni Energy is one of the leading providers of Engineering and Value Added Oilfield Support Services in the Oil and Gas industry in Ghana for over ten years. OMINIFERT has been working over the years to support the transformation of the Agro-Chemical Industry in Ghana for sustainable food security in the future. The Company combines economic success with environmental protection and social responsibility. OMNIFERT’S locally based state-of- the-arts fertilizer-blending facility is the first of its kind in Ghana. This is a result of the premium the company places on improving crop production in Ghana and Africa at large.
