The much anticipated 2017 budget of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government was yesterday read on the floor of Parliament by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

Outlining the various policy projections, programmes, and implementation plans in detail, the Finance Minister announced major tax cuts in government’s first budget statement as promised by President Nana Addo Dankwa during the last electioneering campaign.

Ghana’s new administration will be exactly 54 days old when it presents its maiden budget on March 2, 2017.  Below are random questions put together by some staff of IMANI on energy, economy, education, health and infrastructure (railways, roads, aviation, science & technology, water, sanitation and communications). IMANI will present its preliminary assessment of the 2017 budget on March 3, 2017.

 

Former President John Agyekum Kufuor has expressed shock and dismay at comments made by Former President Jerry John Rawlings  in a  recent interview  he granted  to the ‘Daily Graphic’ in which he made false claims about him.

 24 hours after  the president, Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo delivered his maiden state of the nation address , the minority group in Parliament has also delivered what it termed  “ the real state of the Nation Address(RSONA) condemning  the Akufo-Addo government for what it  regard as  an 'unreasonable decision'  to halt the recruitment of more than 8,600 nurses.

 

The Board of Directors of Ghana Oil Company (Goil) has rendered an apology to President Nana Akufo-Addo after wrongly accusing him of breaching procedures in appointing a new head for the company.

 

Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has said the NPP government is on track to fix the “ailing economy” it inherited from the previous NDC administration.

Dr. Bawumia is optimistic that the modalities being worked on by the Akufo-Addo-led administration will transform Ghana, giving a strong indication the private sector will be the engine of growth.
