The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) is currently at war with the Flagbearer of the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), Mr. Christian Kwabena Andrews (Osofo Kyiriabossom), over a whopping GHc250, 000 as tax Clearance certificate fee ahead of the December 7 poll.
The misunderstanding erupted after the GUM Leader said not to have owed the GRA such a huge sum of money.
The leader of the newly formed political party alleged the action by GRA was a deliberate attempt to destroy his political ambition ahead of the December 7 poll.
In a statement signed by the leader of GUM yesterday, “the amount demanding by GRA is illegal since my little properties does deserves such a huge sum of money”.
The statement believed it is an attempt by the GRA to create challenges for GUM in its quest of contesting the 2020 general election.
According to the statement, the leader of GUM had already cleared his personal income tax thinking he would be furnished with the necessary documents certifying him with tax Clearance certificate.
“The nation’s authorized body tasked to mobilize revenue for the country, says otherwise indicating that personal income tax alone does not in any way guarantee one to be issued with certificate” the statement indicated
The statement further stated that officials of the GRA, upon extensive research to ascertain themselves with the number of business and other projects owned by the leader of the GUM party including those under construction.
He indicated that some of his properties taxed by the GRA are yet to be completed, saying that the action is against the law of the country.
“It is a huge amount of money for the GUM leader whose house was recently robbed at Kumasi in the Asante Region” the statement hinted.
