President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has unveiled the design-architecture of the National Cathedral which construction would serve as an inter-denominational place of worship for important national occasions.

At brief ceremony to unveil the beautiful design put together the world-acclaimed Ghanaian architect, David Adjaye, the President said the Cathedral when completed would house impressive chapels and baptistery, a 5,000-capacity auditorium, grand central hall, music school, choir rehearsal and multi-use spaces, art gallery and a shop.

The President said the edifice was going to be an iconic centre for thanksgiving and to worship God for His mercies.
He called for all to find space to support the construction of the project and later cut sod for the construction of the Cathedral.

The design of the structure was done by Sir David Adjaye, an astute and internationally acclaimed architect, who said he drew inspiration from both Christian symbolism and Ghanaian heritage.
He added that the edifice would be a celebration of religion, culture and local traditions.
The President also urged all to make the Cathedral the nation’s ceremonial landmark as it is conceived as a physical embodiment of unity, harmony and spirituality.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the National Cathedral Most Rev. Dr. Samuel; Asante Antwi said the Washington Cathedral which has become a clear example of what Ghana aspires to build would inspire all and all those involve in the project to put in their weight behind for the successful construction.

Rev. Dr. Samuel; Asante Antwi said there are clear indications that President Akufo-Addo is “chosen by God to lead the nation. Everything is clear to us,” he said and averred that the construction of the cathedral is going to be a great mark in the history of Ghana and for the Akufo-Addo led government.

He however pointed out that the trustees of the project will be meeting to look critically at the project and all the ramifications, for people to see that work has started.

On completion, the Cathedral would become Ghana’s Mother Church, where all faiths and denominations could gather and worship in spiritual accord.
It would be a place of inspiration, reflection and common devotion, a place to celebrate Ghanaian authentic culture and traditions.
A new ceremonial route and landscape would link it to historic landmarks in Accra.
