…Dr. Kyeremateng Urges Bawumia
Dr. Michael Kyeremateng, a Medical Homeopath, Complimentary Health Specialist at the C4C Homeopathic Hospitals in Ghana and in Europe has called on the NPP Presidential Candidate, Dr. Mahmoud Mahamudu Bawumia to incorporate Traditional, Complimentary & Integrative Medicine as a priority into the Party’s manifesto.
This, he said, which will go a long way to help the gains of both the government and the Ghanaian population.
Dr Kyeremateng who was also a former parliamentary aspirant of the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa Constituency and a Former Central Regional Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party, said Traditional, Complementary and Integrative Medicine and therapies (TCIM) refers to different forms of health practices and products outside the mainstream orthodox medicine.
“TCIM is also referred to as complementary and integrative health. It covers a broad spectrum of ancient and modern approaches that support the prevention or treatment of diseases. It includes the use of traditional herbs, traditional and spiritual healing, and other medical practices like Medical Homeopathy, Chiropractic, Acupuncture, Acupressure, Ayurvedic, Unani, Sidha, Yoga etc.”
He averred that, TCIM is known to be the oldest form of healthcare practice available and it is found in almost every country around the world and the recent WHO summit in India which Dr. Kyeremateng was one of the Delegates confirms TCIM as the second largest Therapeutics by the WHO.
Globally, he said, the interest in TCIM and its use has grown and it is being accepted by many people around the world.
The WHO reports that about 80% of people in developing countries such as China, India, Latin America and large parts of Africa are known to rely on TCIM as a source of primary health care.
He said: “In Ghana, TCIM was practised over the centuries, and by trial and error, the knowledge of traditional medicine has been acquired and adopted. It is known to have existed hundreds of years before the colonial era – there are now many accredited TCIM departments and tertiary institutions in Ghana like Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology which has graduated many Medical Herbalist and C4C Homeopathic Medical College also registered and accredited by the CTVET graduating Medical Homeopaths amongst others.
In Ghana alone, more than 70% of Ghanaians depend on traditional, complementary and integrative medicine (TCIM) practices for primary healthcare needs.”
