President of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), Albert Kwabena Dwunfor, has stressed that issues concerning the revival of journalists remains his topmost priority.
The media, the GJA President stated plays significant role with regards to the development of every country and therefore declared his readiness to ensure that journalists are fully protected on their field of operations.
The GJA President made this known at a forum meant to commemorate the first anniversary celebration of the current GJA administration in Accra, yesterday, under the theme, “Current trends in Ghana’s media landscape”.
“All issues concerning the smooth operations of journalists across the country is very paramount to me as a GJA President and I’m prepared to live up to the expectations of all Ghanaians,” he disclosed.
He disclosed that various attacks on journalists on their field of operations have been tackled under the current GJA administration across the country.
He pleaded with Government to come out with initiatives that would go a long way to help make lives bearable for journalists across the country.
For her part, the Deputy Minister for Information, Fatima Abubakar, who represented the Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah congratulated the current GJA administration for their transformation agenda since their assumption of office.
The Government, she said, has over the years-initiated programs that aimed at making the media vibrant towards the economic development of the country. According to her, the implementation of the Right To Information (RTI) is one of the current Government’s efforts at making the media effective in the country.
Madam Abubakar entreated all journalists to report all institutions that are not willing to give out information concerning their operations to them for publication.
The Deputy Minister urged the media not to be in any hurry to circulate information but rather do thorough investigations before disseminating information to the public.
