The Chief of Korlewonko-Agbogbloshie, under Gbese in the Greater Accra Region, Nii Armah Okpah II, has castigated the Mayor of Accra, Elizabeth Kwatsoe Sackey , for deliberately ignoring him and his elders in the ongoing “Clean Accra Campaign” initiated by President Akufo-Addo.
According to him , the Mayor of Accra has undermined their credibility and failed to bring them onboard to help compliment President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s plans of making Accra clean and the cleanest city in West Africa.
He disclosed that even though President Akufo Addo during one of his visit to the area charged the Mayor to liase with them to make the campaign a reality the mayor has refused to adhere to the order .
The Chief made this known at this year Homowo celebration which was held held on Saturday .
Nii Okpah II stated that “as Traditional Leaders who care about Accra , we have been doing our possible best and providing the necessary support for the beautification of the capital city “.
“We are ready to partner the Government to achieve its clean Accra Campaign but the Accra Mayor has not given us the green light” he stated.
According to him, Traditional Leaders play significant roles in nation building and called for their involvement in programs that promotes Ghana’s growth.
“I Am pleading with the Accra Mayor and the Government as a whole to always involve us, in decision makings to propel the country’s development” Nii Okpah II disclosed.
Highlighting on this year Homowo festival, the Chief thanked the Almighty for a successful celebration and was optimistic that subsequent celebrations would be exceptional.
He underscored the need for the people within the area to remain united towards the total development of the town.
The chief further called on the Government to hand over the Korle Lagoon to them as Traditional leaders to maintain and keep it clean .
“The Korle Lagoon is a big Tourist Site and we are not happy at its current state and that’s why we keep asking past and present governments to hand it over to us for development if it(the Government) can’t manage it” Nii Okpah II hinted.
Meanwhile, all efforts to get in touch with the Accra Mayor, Madam Elizabeth Kwatsoe Sackey to react on the issue proved futile.
We shall publish her side in our subsequent editions when we get her.
