President Akufo-Addo on Monday, September 12, received a rousing welcome from an enthusiastic crowd as he paid a courtesy call on the Chiefs and people of the Kpando Constituency as part of his two-day tour of the Volta Region.
The President used the occasion to assure the residents of his governments’ commitment to the total development of the Kpando Constituency especially in the areas of road infrastructure and sports development.
The visit which was a clear indication of the NPP’s determination to break the Eight and NDC’s waning hold on the constituency has sent shivers down the spines of the Leadership of National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the 3-term Member of Parliament (MP) for the Kpando Constituency, Della Sowah.
President Akufo-Addo who was in the Volta Region to acquaint himself with the progress of work on various developmental projects being undertaken by his government, started his tour from the capital of the Volta Region with the opening of the Ghana Bar Association Conference in Ho. He then departed to Kpeve to inspect an Agenda 111 project in the South Dayi Constituency. The President then made a strategic dash into the Kpando Constituency to continue the New Patriotic Party’s frantic efforts to wrestle the Kpando Constituency seat from the NDC’s Della Sowah and make greater gains in the 2024 Presidential Elections.
At a short Ceremony at the palace of the Paramount Chief of Kpando, Togbe Dagadu IX, he lamented the poor nature of the Kpando Torkor – Ve-Golokuati road. He said the road is vital to the socio-economic development of the area as it serves as the link road to the food basket of the Kpando Municipality. The Chief further made an appeal to the President to consider renovating the Kpando Sports Stadium, one of the oldest stadiums in the Volta Region, to enhance sports and talent development of the youth in the area.
“Take a look at the Kpando Torkor road which I am reliably informed is a highway, this road is extremely important because it connects to Torkor, an important fishing and farming community and other important communities which serve as food basket for all. We therefore appeal that Torkor to at least Golokuati should be fixed as a matter of urgency” he pleaded.
Togbe Dagadu IX also implored the President to consider Kpando Technical institute for a TVET Tertiary Institution as Kpando is noted for contributing massively to the technical and Vocational needs of students in the Volta region and the entire county through its technical institute.
He expressed great optimism about fixing the deplorable state of the Bishop Herman Senior High School as the school marks its 70th Anniversary in November.
The President expressed delight at the peace that has returned to Kpando and assured the Chiefs and People of Kpando of the support of the Volta Regional Minister in performance of the final funeral rites of the Late Togbe Dagadu VIII.
President Akufo-Addo assured the residents that the Minister of Roads, Kwesi Amoako Atta has taken note of all the concerns and will get them fixed as soon as possible. He expressed his willingness to get the Kpando Sports stadium renovated to serve its purpose.
“The other matters that you have put on the table before me, are all matters that are all going to be concerned and addressed. I am particularly interested in helping you do something about the sports stadium. With all that is going on in our neighboring countries where there are all terrorists and other activities, it’s extremely important that all of us have a unity of purpose, unity of vision for our great country Ghana. This is the time we should all come together and make one strong Ghanaian state and I want to assure you of the full commitment of my government to work with you and all the other chiefs in the Volta Region to achieve this reality in our time” the president stated.
The President proceeded to Kpando Dafor where he commissioned a bridge which the Member of Parliament for the area insisted she lobbied for the people of the area. The constituents were therefore amazed that the MP was conspicuously missing during the commissioning of the same bridge she claimed ownership over. They believed that the visit of the first gentleman of the land has exposed the lies of Madam Della Sowah greatly.
Many of the residents expressed satisfaction with the works of the President and explained that they cannot wait for the return of the President as the Guest speaker at the 70th Anniversary of Bishop Herman College in November.
