A former Municipal Chief Executive for the Ga East Municipal Assembly and a member of the NPP Greater Accra Regional Campaign Committee, Elizabeth Kaakie Mann has criticized recent comments made by the Founder and Leader of the Movement for Change, Alan Kyerematen, for calling on Christians to elect a ‘Christlike’ president in the forthcoming December 2024 elections, citing the predominantly Christian nature of the nation and the importance of having a leader who shares the religious faith of the majority of the population.
The Founder and Leader of the Movement for Change (M4C), Alan Kyerematen, called on Christians to elect a ‘Christlike’ president in the forthcoming December 2024 elections. Highlighting the predominantly Christian nature of the nation, emphasising the importance of having a leader who shares the religious faith of the majority of the population.
Elizabeth Kaakie Mann, called on Mr. Kyerematen to retract his statement and issue an apology for what she perceives as an inappropriate suggestion. Mann’s criticism likely stems from concerns about the potential exclusion of candidates based on religious affiliation, which could be seen as discriminatory and contrary to principles of democracy and inclusivity. Mrs Kaakie Mann says “We are all Ghanaians, leaving in harmony and there is peace in the country, the peace we are enjoying is as a result of we tolerating each other whether being Muslim, Christian or traditionalist. the statement seeks to bring cayuse amongst religious groups in the country and we are calling on him to apologies and retract the statement” she further indicated that leaders should be guided with their massage during the campaigning to not divide the country.
Emphasizing that “Dr. Bawumia is a unifier and tolerates every religion, you would see him in the church and also in the mosque and attends every event no matter who you are or where you came from or your religion” she said.
She called Ghanaians to elect leaders based on competence and merit and not on religious rounds.
