The foundation of Fanteakwa North Constituency of the ruling New Patriotic Party in the Eastern Region is shaking as the youth and some opinion leaders are calling on the President not to reappoint the incumbent DCE, Mr Oware Tweneboah for the second term.
According to the Youth, the DCE is very incompetent and has failed to deliver on his mandate, hence he doesn’t deserve another term in office.
The Concern Youth of Fanteakwa North addressing a press conference in Begoro last week stated that the District needs a unifier as a DCE to be able to heal old wounds in the party’s primaries before the 2024 general elections.
They said the tribal politics, selfish and arrogant party officials and unpopular nature of some leading party members are factors that resulted in the poor performance in the 7th December Elections, which is a strong and burning agitation for a positive change else winning 2024 Elections will be a mirage.
Explaining their reasons, one of the speakers, Kingsley Asiama noted that the District Chief Executive must not be retained on the grounds that he doesn’t have any proper records to show as an achievement that the party can boast of in the area.
The youth of Fanteakwa North said, they need a DCE who is very firm, assertive and well respected and outspoken, adding that ” If Fanteakwa North were to vote on the DCE there is no way the incumbent could have pulled 20% of votes”.
The youth also noted that as far as 2024 polls or Elections are concerned, Fanteakwa North needs a DCE who will stand very firm against tribalism and also will not be a stooge to some leading party members at the constituency to arouse anger among voters.
They said second in the sequence of positive change is the Fanteakwa North Party Executives, adding that there is the need for a grand overhaul of the membership of party Executives.
They said, “Some of them are held in high esteem and have impeccable character. Some members are very greedy and selfish and the betterment of the party and the district are none of their business”.
Expressing their worries, they said in the 7th December Elections half of the money to be paid to NPP polling station agents ended up in the pockets of some Party Executives.
“To add insult to injuries these same Executives are seriously vying for the DCE position. This polling station agents money that was not fully paid to them is just the tip of the iceberg” the youth hinted
The statement also noted that “the last but not the least is the Member of Parliament for 2024 Elections. This change is long overdue. There have been very serious agitations that the NPP Member of Parliament is not performing so he must be replaced.
If the NDC candidate Mr Haroun Owiredu Apau was able to pull 10996 votes and lost by just over 379 votes every right-thinking person must know that 2024 will be a disaster if the incumbent MP is retained. Mr Haroun Owiredu is even not well known at Fanteakwa North”.
Meanwhile, some chefs have also signed a petition to endorse the second term of the DCE, but the Concern Youth of Fanteakwa in reactions sent a caution to the Begoro Traditional Council to rescind its decision to endorse the incumbent District Chief Executive, Charles Oware Tweneboah for the position in the 2nd term of President Akufo-Addo.
The Youth noted that four persons have shown interest in the position and are therefore, appealing to President Akufo-Addo to consider one Nana Sakyi Amankwa, a patron of the party and also the ‘Twafohene’ of Begoro and Fanteakwa traditional area.
The statement added “We as Concern Fanteakwa Youth Association have thrown our support in favor of Nana Sakyi Amankwa, a patron of good standing for NPP and also The Twafohene of Begoro and Fanteakwa traditional area.
“We are of the view Nana Sakyi Amankwa represents the interest of the development of Fanteakwa North and its human resource hence our decision to support his candidature. He has all the sterling leadership qualities and better exposure to move the district forward in the right direction” the statement said.
They concluded that “We, therefore, encourage opinion leaders and well-meaning people of Fanteakwa North and Begoroman to be concerned with who becomes the next District Chief Executive of Fanteakwa North because our district is far behind in development.”
They, however, appealed to the President to order the National Security to the District and investigate the DCE to see if what they are saying about the DCE is not true.
