Chairman of Built Environment National Conference on Housing and Hydrology
(BENCH) and deputy minister nominee for Works and Housing, Dr. Prince Hamid
Armah, has stated that the BENCH conference would engage with the public, especially
stakeholders, to delve into challenges and provide solutions to housing deficit, flooding,
and infrastructure financing within the works and housing sector.
Speaking at the press launch of BENCH in Accra yesterday under the theme “Enhancing
Collaboration to tackle Ghana’s Housing and Hydrology Challenges,” Dr. Hamid indicated
that "the aim of the conference is to establish a comprehensive platform to engage with
the wider public especially stakeholders within the built environment; showcase the
strides made by the Ministry of Works and Housing in recent years, and outline our
roadmap towards achieving our vision of a robust and sustainable development of
public works and housing infrastructure in the medium term."
The policy formulation and its subsequent efficient implementation stand as the fundamental
pillars upon which the nation's development is built. In this respect, the role of the Ministry
of Works and Housing in guaranteeing and safeguarding the establishment of sustainable
housing and infrastructure developments cannot be overemphasized, he added.
Mr Hamid further explained that "The Ministry is mandated not only to develop sound
policies but also supervise their effective execution, ensuring that they translate into
improvements in the lives of the people. From addressing the housing deficit to
enhancing our flood resilient infrastructure and regulations, the Ministry's efforts are
linked to various sectors, driving socio-economic progress and enhancing the overall
quality of life for citizens. Thus, recognizing the Ministry's diverse responsibilities
highlights the importance of its endeavours in shaping the path of national
development"
The Kwasimintim Member of Parliament (MP) therefore urge all to take part in this insightful
conference to be held on 27th to 29th May. Also, the first conference on 27th April will
discuss flooding issues, 28th would discuss housing issues, and the 29th will tackle the
regulatory framework within the sector.
"Together, through collaborative efforts and innovative solutions, we can surmount the
challenges present and pave the way for enduring progress and prosperity in our
nation," he added.
