Against his resolve to call a truce with Assembly Members who say they would not confirm him, residents have also vowed to deal with members who will dare rescind their decision to reject the AtwimaNwabiagya South MCE nominee, Michael AmoahAwuku, if a new date is set for another round of voting.
To register their preparedness to take on any Assembly Member who would dare vote to confirm him, residents of the area clad in red yesterday stormed the assembly complex at Nkawie to demand what they say is their right.
Members of the Assembly, after last Friday’s incident had revealed that they are prepared to accept and overwhelmingly endorse any other person but the current MCE nominee who they claim, has shown signs of being vindictive, disrespectful to chiefs and also failed to consult them despite the critical roles they play in the democratic structure of the area.
Chanting war songs amidst wielding placards with various inscriptions the people said shortly after voting on Friday September 24, 2021, that “We are committed to the pact we have with President Nana AddoDankwaAkufo-Addo but the anchor of that pact in this our area will lead us nowhere- reason we have rejected him to send a signal to the President that Awuku is not a unifier and may not help his course.”
Mr. Michal AmoahAwuku who was seeking a 100% endorsement, was left disappointed and sweating after the votes had been cast by Assembly Members in the Municipality.
The embattled Municipal Chief Executive nominee polled 19 votes from 31 Assembly Members.
The Assembly Members maintained that either a new person is chosen or they would continue to reject him since he has proven to be incompetent in the handling of affairs.
The nominee was supposed to get two-thirds of the assembly members meaning he needed 21 Assembly Members to vote YES in order to be approved but fell short and has since resorted to begging traditional rulers and some opinion leaders to plead on his behalf as the signs are that nothing may change.
