The overlord of Asante Kingdom, His Majesty Otumfour Osei Tutu ll, has admonished the newly enstooled chief of Adansi Dompoase to erase the bad history of Dompoase chieftaincy and write a new one.
Nana Kwabena Ponko, Dompoasehene, who was enstooled on Monday,5 June, 2023, swore the customary oath to the Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll Asantehene under the stool name Okofo Kwabena Bonsu ll at “Dwabrem” at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi, in the Ashanti region.
68-year old Okofo Kwabena Bonsu ll, successor to Okofo Sobin Kai ll, who was destooled in December 2020 by Asantehene held the
“Mponponsuo,” the state sword in his right hand, espoused the greatness, achievements, and conquests of his ancestors and pledged to blaze their trail and that “If I fail to continue the exploits of my ancestors and fail in my duty, I contravene the Great Oath of Asante”, he declared.
The enthusiastic crowd that had gathered there immediately mobbed Okofo Kwabena Bonsu ll.
Bare-chested-youth carried him on their shoulders, while women besmeared him with powder amidst singing of praises, drumming and dancing with the ecstatic crowd broking the security cordon to catch a glimpse at the new Dompoasehene.
The sub-chiefs of Dompoase swore the oath of allegiance to Otumfuo Osei Tutu ll in turns. The Kontire Division expressed the hope that under the administration of Okofo Kwabena Bonsu ll, Dompoaseman and Asanteman would see much progress.
Present were: Nana Afrifa Tokudom lll Dompoase hemaa, Oguahyia Oduropanin Birikorang Edubiase hene, Nana 7 Dwum ll, Edubiase hemaa and the entire Dompoase Divisional council.
The Asantehene expressed disappointment in how the chieftaincy issues have been handled in Dompoase over the past century.
He explained that no Dompoase chief has ever succeeded in his reign without being destooled, a record he greatly abhors.
He implored Okofo Kwabena Bonsu II to make sure such a bad record is erased and a new one written.
Otunfour Osei Tutu also advised that for such a thing to be a reality, he needed to be respectful, embrace everyone, and make sure resources are shared equitably to avoid back-biting.
He, however, cautioned him against complacency and advised him to strive to continue to unite the people to ensure peace, stability, and rapid development to improve the living standard of the people of Dompoase.
The queen mother, Nana Afrifa Tokudom IIl and sub-chiefs of Dompoase, who held the forth in the absence of a chief during the 30-month period, looked relieved and excited that the enstoolment became a reality.
Okofo Kwabena Bonsu ll was officially unveiled to the people of Dompoase Divisional Council at the last Akwaside on Sunday 23rd July, 2023.
Speaking for the first time as Chief, he called on all and sundry to support him to put a stop to the shameful record of Dompoase and rewrite history.
He expressed that under his administration, Dompoaseman and Asanteman would see much progress, saying that he would be patient, tolerant, tactful, and maintain an open administration.
He further urged his subject to rally behind him as he sought to bring development. He promised to create jobs for the youths and solve all pending disputes, among other things.
Second deputy speaker of Parliament and Member of Parliament for Fomena, Honourable Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who was a guest, urged the newly sworn in chief to count on his support and that of the government. He pledged that more developmental projects will soon flood Dompoase and its environs.
Okofo Kwabena Bonsu II succeeds Okofo Sobin Kai II, and a number of Okofos whose reign at the helms of Dompoase Divisional Council came to an abrupt end. Okofo Kwabena Bonsu II faces a daunting task of changing the status quo and rewriting history, he is poised to live up to the task.
A number of Adansi Dompoase Chiefs was descended on the throne including Okofo Akwasi Boabeng ll Okofo, Tabiri Agyei III, Okofo Sobin Kai ll, in few years.
Nana Kwabena Ponkoh ll known in private life as farmer who was emerged as the 2020 National Best Cocoa Farmer for the 36th edition of the Farmer’s Day Celebrating held at Techiman, the Bono Reginal Capital on Friday 6th November 2020.
Nana has a total of 72.11 hectares of cocoa farms in Obuasi; producing over 3200 bags annually.
The new Chief is an immediate past AbusuaPanin of Adansi Dompoase Divisional Council in the Adansi North District of the Ashanti Region of Ghana.
