Electrochem Ghana Limited, investors developing the Songor Salt Project has donated an Isuzu Pick-Up truck to the Ada District Police Division.
The donation is to assist the police in the area in their day-to-day monitoring and activities in the communities.
Presenting the Pick-Up truck to the police, General Manager of Electrochem Ghana Limited, Mr. Dave Cameron said the gesture was not to influence the work of the police in any way but it is part of the company’s Corporate Social responsibility
He said the Company is already in the communities carrying out preparatory works to pave way for the development of the Project and that the Company has so far done so many things to help the communities.
“If we have to work, grow and be successful, the communities we are working in have to grow as well,” he said.
Speaking in an interview, Dave Cameron explained that the Company has made the donation to the police after getting complaints of lack of adequate transport facilities.
Answering questions as to whether Electrochem has begun mining salt in the Ada Lagoon, Dave Cameron averred that “We haven’t done any salt mining,” saying that there are already existing miners who are doing artisanal mining and that, according to him, that is slowing the project.
He however noted that, from their observation it is obvious and has proven to be true that the vast majority of the community members are in support of the project and they want to see Songor develop.
“We take advice from everybody, leaders, traditional leaders because we don’t want anyone to be hurt, so we are always doing consultations to see how best we can all together with the community work to develop the Lagoon to the best interest of the people especially,” he said.
In a separate interview with the Ada Divisional Police Commander, Francis Kouame Simian, he explained that the Ada Divisional Division has never taken anything from any group of persons and that the police are in the community to protect lives and properties.
According to him, whenever there is an issue and the matter is reported to the police, they go in and ascertain the situation and find solutions.
He commented on last week’s attacks on workers of Electrochem Ghana and mentioned that the incidents of the attacks have been reported to his outfit and investigations are underway as ten people have been arrested to aid in the investigation process.
