The bereaved family of late Maxwell Asare (37 years) is demanding justice from the Inspector General of Police (IGP), over his untimely death.
Reports indicate that, on 9th June 2020 at 12:20pm, Maxwell Asare was in charge of an unregistered Royal motor bike with his pillion rider Prince Horsu aged 31 from Boadua towards Akwatia in the eastern region. On their way to their destination, a Maxus Vehicle with registration number Gp383 being drive by No. 49149 G/L/Cpl. Daniel Asare was also was on its way to Akwatia with station Officer D/PW/C/Inspr. Susan Ayaric on board from the Kade District Court.
On reaching a section of road at Obenewaa junction, Boadua, whilst negotiating a curve, the offside steering of the motorbike hit the rear side of the police service vehicle and in the process the rider lost control and fell down with the Moto bike.
The rider and his passenger sustained injuries on their heads and were rushed to the St Dominic hospital, Akwatia for treatment but Maxwell died on same day at 9pm whilst receiving treatment. His Body was then deposited at the same hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Further reports indicate that the police team in Akwatia visited the family and made a presentation of GH¢ 1,200 and left. The team has not been heard again. Several letters written to the team have not been replied.
The mother of the deceased, Beatrice Owusua and the bereaved family are therefore calling on the Inspector General of Police and the president to intervene and help dispense Justice.
Speaking to the District Police Commander DSP Yaw Dankwah Agyekum in a mobile phone interview, he admitted that the accident happened on the said date with Akwatia Police service car and after investigations conducted, they had forwarded the docket to the office of the Attorney General for advice.
He further explained that after the occurrence of the accident the district police command paid all the bills at St Dominic Hospital and affidavit at court for the deceased family.
Mr Dankwah Agyakum reiterated that they asked the family of late Maxwell Asare permission to do a postmortem examination to discover the cause of death but the family refused, and finally concluded to go to court for an affidavit to grant the family permission to bury the body.
He said he cannot fathom why the case is at the Attorney General’s Department for advice but the family had already forwarded the case to Police Intelligence and Professional Standard (PIPs) to investigate.
