The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Ga North Municipal Assembly, Hon. Simons Sekyim has presented dual desks to two schools in the Municipality.
The donation was done through the Municipal Education Directorate to Pokuase Methodist and Pokuase M/A schools.
This follows a tour the MCE made to schools in his municipality upon assumption of office, where he observed that some basic schools lacked adequate infrastructure. This has affected enrolment and the quality of teaching and learning.
Also, the inadequate infrastructure had occasioned some of the schools to run a shift system, a phenomenon the MCE seeks to abolish entirely in the municipality.
Hon Simons Sekyim pledged his commitment and reiterated the government’s efforts to leave no Ghanaian child behind, when it comes to education. He added that his office will continue to support the education directorate to improve the standards of education in the Ga North Municipality, and called on all stakeholders to ensure that the education of our children becomes a priority.
The MCE appealed to the directorate to ensure the desks are equally distributed in the municipality.
He said the donation was to create a conductive environment for the pupils to study well and improve their academic performance.
He tasked the beneficiary headteachers to ensure the students take good care of the desks so the Assembly will not be compelled to buy desks every year.
Receiving the desks, heads of both schools thanked the MCE for the support and promised him that the desks were going to be handled well by the schools, so he should be doing more of this to help improve education in the municipality.
The said the donation would help reduce the furniture deficit in the schools within the municipality and make the pupils feel more comfortable to enable them to focus on their studies.
