The Member of Parliament for the Dormaa East constituency, Paul Twum Barimah has assured Ghanaians that President Akufo Addo and his government is committed to protecting the religious, cultural and moral values of the Ghanaian society and would never do anything contrary.
He said the Anti-Gay and Lesbian bill is currently at the committee stage and assured that when it goes to the floor for debate, members of Parliament who are the representatives of the people would do the needful and ensure that the right thing is done and the good citizens of Ghana are protected .
Speaking to the media in an interview, the astute politician explained that the majority in Parliament is also determined and committed to protecting the moral, cultural and religious values of the country and ensure that everything is done to protect the people.
Paul TwumBarimahsaid government is determined to do the right thing and will therefore support the views of the people since the voice of the people is the voice of God. “We represent our constituents and we act and work on their behalf as their representatives. So we will consider their advice and concerns in this regard and act appropriately “’ he said. He therefore urged the public to remain calm and trust the government.
It will be recalled that the president, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo early this year assured Ghanaians that it would not be under his presidency that marriage between persons of the same sex would be legalized in the country.
President Akufo-Addo made the remark at the St. Micheal and All Angels Cathedral in Asante Mampong during the installation of the Second Archbishop of the Anglican Church of Ghana.
“I have said it before, and let me stress it again, that it will not be under the Presidency of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo that same-sex marriage will be legal”, he stressed.
Besides, In 2018, the President gave the first of his indication that he would never amend the laws of the country to allow for same-sex marriage.For him, such consideration was never on his government agenda.He made the declaration at a similar church ceremony during the synod of the Global Evangelical Church in Accra.
