An alleged corruption scandal has engulfed Inés Miranda Navarro, former head of territorial policy and landscape at the Cabildo of Gran Canaria, known for her support for the polisario front. Implicated in the controversial management of public contracts related to the organization of the “Landscape Days”, between 2016 and 2019, this political figure faces serious accusations of abuse of public office, embezzlement of public funds, and fraud against the Spanish administration.
According to the reported details of the judicial case, Inés Miranda Navarro could face up to five years in prison and a ten-year ban from holding public office. The suspicions concern an alleged system of irregular contract awards, contract splitting, and financial transfers to private companies, under circumstances that could constitute violations of the rules governing the management of public funds.
At the center of the investigations is Imaco 89, a company managed by María Ángeles Horna Andrade, wife of the Cabildo’s former public auditor, who was responsible for overseeing expenditures and approving payments. This family connection raises serious questions about potential conflicts of interest in the management of public contracts.
This case takes on particular political significance because of Inés Miranda Navarro’s activist ties to circles supporting the polisario front. Described as a staunch supporter of the Sahrawi separatist cause, she has notably distinguished herself through her participation in initiatives supporting the Polisario front, her involvement in organizations of legal professionals mobilized around the issue of “Western Sahara”, and her defense of separatist Aminatou Haidar.
