The 3rd accused in the ongoing Ato Forson trial has disclosed to the court that he requested to have meetings with the learned Attorney-General, during his response to a question by lawyer for Dr. Ato Forson.
According to Richard Jakpa, he met the learned Attorney-General four times and that the AG obliged him his request and agreed a meeting with him through Justice Yonny Kulendi.
He said the purpose of the meeting was to allow him explain the “whole story” and why charges against him were unfounded.
Richard Jakpa revealed that upon their meeting, he had enough time to explain his story. During the course of cross-examination, he also narrated a conversation between himself and the learned Attorney-General in the presence of the learned Supreme Court judge, Justice Yonny Kulendi.
In response to a question from the learned Dr. Bassit Bamba, the accused, Richard Jakpa said he holds the view that the prosecution was based on witch-hunting and political-points scoring.
He also alleged that the goal of the prosecution was also to have the seat of the minority leader and 1st accused declared vacant for the conduct of a by-election.
During his cross-examination which followed after the respected Justice Afia Serwah Asare-Botwe gave her ruling on the admissibility of the audio recording, Mr. Jakpa gave lengthy answers suggesting that the State and the present government was responsible for the State of the ambulances as they failed to follow a letter of implementation.
Mr. Jakpa also was of the view per his responses to questions by Dr. Bassit that the ambulances could not have been declared unfit for purpose as the accessories which had to be fitted in the ambulances are yet to be cleared and fitted in the vans which were imported to serve the purposes of ambulances.
Lawyers for the 1st accused, Dr. Ato Forson have ended their cross-examination of Mr. Jakpa. The state began its cross-examination today and will continue on Tuesday the 18th day of June, 2024
