The Member of Parliament for Dormaa East, Paul AprakuTwum Barimah has condemned the ‘Do or die’ violent statement made by the ex-president, John Dramani Mahama, aimed at inciting his supporters to cause violence and mayhem towards the 2024 general elections.

‘ Let me assure the ex-president, John Dramani Mahama, that his statement cannot intimidate the good people of this country, and the security institutions are on alert and working to maintain the peace and sanity that we are enjoying in this country. As an ex-president of Ghana, we expect him to be civil in his comments and show some leadership qualities in his statements. However, he is doing the contrary. But we want to assure him that Ghanaians are now discerning and would not kowtow to his negative utterances. They will not fall for his violent political statements that tend cause chaos in society’
Honourable Apraku Twum Barimah said the comments by Mr Mahama tend to undermine the integrity and intelligence of the good people of Ghana . He further said Mr. Mahama should be ashamed of himself for making such unfounded statements.
The do or die statement by by the ex- president attracted condemnation by social media users and a section of the public including members of parliament who said it was needles.
Ex-President John Dramani Mahama speaking on Techiman-based Akina FM on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, as part of his thank-you tour, said the NDC acted diplomatically amidst the military intimidations and use of pro-vigilante groups in the last election.
According to him, the party has learnt its lessons and for that matter, the 2024 election will be a ‘do or die’ affair.
“We have learnt our lessons from happenings during the 2020 polls. The 2024 elections will be won or lost at the polling station. It will be do-or-die at the polling stations. The right thing must be done during the polls. We will win the elections at the polling station and won’t wait for collation centre results nor petition the Supreme Court if aggrieved,” Mahama shared.
