The Germany branch of the New Patriotic Party is in turmoil as tensions rise in the branch’s impending elections.
Our sources say the tension is due to a request by a faction, led by one Mrs. Rebecca Aboagye Sarpong who is contesting to become the chairperson of the Branch that the voter’s register be reopened in breach of the party’s rules and regulations.
This has caused a group of party activists calling themselves ‘Concerned NPP Members of Germany’, led by Alhajj Suleman to issue a 15-page objection to the request by Mrs. Sarpong’s faction.
Parts of the objection read “in past couple of days, we have watched with trepidation, the deliberate ploy by some egoistic elements within the party to push the branch to a cliff.”
“It appears that, those wanting to foment troubles in the Branch are known faces whose track record shows that, their stock-in-trade has always been to engender toxic atmosphere ostensibly to distract the branch from making any meaningful progress” they alleged.
In a memorandum submitted by over 9 aspirants including, a senior cardiologist, Dr. Felix Yamoah, who is contesting to become the chairman of the Branch and is tipped by many as the favourite, to the Branch National Council, the aspirants expressed reservations about re-opening of the register.
“We have obtained exclusive documents showing that, the National Council of the Branch has ruled in favour of the Concerned Members, and dismissed the case of Mrs. Sarpong’s group as being in violation of the party’s rules and regulations.”
However, unsatisfied Mrs Sarpong decided to seek redress at the party’s Headquarters in Ghana. Another petition in opposition signed by Alhajj Suleman was delivered to the Headquarters. Subsequently, the matter was referred back to the Branch by the party’s Director of International Affairs, for resolution.
But, in a dramatic turn of events, we have obtained a copy of a letter purportedly written and signed by Mr Freddie Blay, the Chairman of the NPP, himself without recourse to party’s General Secretary and the Director of International Affairs to the Germany branch instructing the Branch to reopen the register. Our attempts to obtain a response from the Germany branch proved futile as everyone has been tight-lipped about the matter.
In a statement released by the ‘Concerned Members’, the group described Mr Blay’s decision as a “whimsical decision by the party’s Chairman, Mr Blay to compel the Branch to open the electoral roll contrary to the Branch’s rules and regulations, and National Council resolutions one month to the Branch’s elections”. They described the reason for Mr Blay’s action as being “animated by something fishy and erotic” as they vowed “never to comply with his illegal, arbitrary, and capricious order.”
Below is the full statement.
*WE WILL NOT ALLOW FREDDIE BLAY TO DESTROY NPP GERMANY*
We, the Concerned Members of NPP Germany, have become aware of a whimsical decision by the party’s Chairman, Mr Blay to compel the Branch to open the electoral roll contrary to the Branch’s rules and regulations, and National Council resolutions one month to the Branch’s elections.
We don’t only find this decision to be arbitrary, but also illegal. Where is Mr. Blay deriving his motivation from? What is the basis of his decision? It’s bizarre that he’d allow himself to be scammed this way. As an experienced lawyer, he failed to adhere to the basic tenet of fair trial which requires you hear the other side – “audi alteram partem” rule.
We, the Concerned Members of NPP Germany are stridently opposed to any attempts to manipulate the electoral process in favour of Mr Blay’s ‘darling girl’. For the record, the agitator who broke away from the party in the last elections and her team brought a petition before the Branch National Council which we opposed on the basis of law.
The Branch National Council upon hearing the two sides of the story, upheld our opposition which essentially was in line with its own resolutions and the party’s rules and regulations. We laid enough factual basis that led to an irresistible conclusion that, Mr Blay’s ‘darling girl’ and her surrogates, were not truthful, mischievous, and diabolic in their agenda.
Subsequently, we made copies of our opposition to the party’s headquarters. Since then, we have not been called to narrate our side of the story, and so, it is shocking that such an arbitrary and illegal fiat would be issued without recourse to our side of the story. Indeed, it ought to be placed on record that, similar to the events of the impending elections, Mr Blay supported his ‘darling girl’ to break away from the Branch after she lost abysmally at the last elections.
Whatever is driving Mr Blay to follow his ‘darling girl’ so blindly, remains a jigsaw puzzle to be figured out. Not only did we the Concerned Members garner over 40 signatories to assent to our petition expressing resentments against manipulation of the electoral rules, more than half of the candidates issued a memorandum opposing any such move; since such a move will not only be a recipe for chaos, but also an avenue for manipulators like Mr Blay’s ‘darling girl’ to populate the register with non-party members.
By this release, we’re serving notice that, if Mr Blay wants to wreck the Branch, so be it. Because, we are vowing never to comply with his illegal, arbitrary, and capricious order which clearly is animated by something fishy and ‘erotic’.
Notice is hereby served!
