President John Dramani Mahama has arrived in Dubai to participate in the 2026 World Governments Summit, a major global forum that convenes world leaders to discuss the future of governance.
The President departed Accra aboard an aircraft provided by the President of the United Arab Emirates and Ruler of Abu Dhabi, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The aircraft transported the Ghanaian leader from Accra to Dubai and is scheduled to proceed to Lusaka after the summit.
President Mahama arrived in Dubai in the early hours of Monday, February 2, and was warmly received by the UAE’s Minister of State, His Excellency Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan.
Held under the theme “Shaping Future Governments,” the 2026 World Governments Summit brings together governments, international organisations, thought leaders, and private sector executives to strengthen global cooperation, explore innovative solutions to shared challenges, and inspire the next generation of governance systems.
The Summit agenda is organised around five core pillars: Global Governance and Effective Leadership; Societal Wellbeing and Capacity Building; Economic Prosperity and Emerging Opportunities; Urban Futures and Evolving Demographics; and Future Realities and Next Frontiers—all aimed at building a more sustainable and inclusive future for humanity.
Scheduled to take place at Madinat Jumeirah in Dubai, the event will convene leaders from government, business, and science to exchange ideas on governance, innovation, and forward-looking public policy.
Notable participants include H.E. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone; H.E. John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana; H.E. Daniel Noboa, President of the Republic of Ecuador; H.E. Guy Parmelin, President of the Swiss Confederation; H.E. Pedro Sánchez, President of the Government of Spain; H.E. Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF); and H.E. Jasem Al Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), among other global leaders.
The Summit is expected to influence key global conversations on policies and innovations that will shape future societies.
