The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Progressive Transport Owners Association (PROTOA Ghana) has officially confirmed the dismissal of Mr. Joshua Kofi Soga—popularly known as French Man and formerly a member of Peace PROTOA, Koforidua Branch. The dismissal has been in effect since 2021 but has now been publicly announced following the conclusion of a prolonged legal dispute.
The decision comes after a final court judgment delivered on 28th June 2024, which brought closure to disagreements between the Association and the dismissed member.
According to PROTOA, Mr. Soga was removed from the Association based on four major grounds: financial misconduct, insubordination, a criminal conviction, and conduct deemed unbecoming of a member.
In a dismissal letter signed by the National Chairman of PROTOA Ghana, Mr. Benjamin Agorsu Katsekpor, the Association stated that Mr. Soga, while serving as Interim Management Committee Treasurer, allegedly acted together with Mr. Francis Akaglo to unlawfully withdraw GH¢360,120 from the Peace PROTOA bank account. An audit conducted by AGEN Business Consult reportedly confirmed the financial discrepancies.
PROTOA said this conduct breached Regulations 5 and 6 of its national Code of Ethics.
The Association further indicated that Mr. Soga was convicted and sentenced to 30 days’ imprisonment, a situation which automatically disqualifies him from voting or contesting for any office under Article 16 of the PROTOA Constitution.
In addition, PROTOA accused Mr. Soga of insubordination for allegedly refusing to cooperate with a three-member council established to oversee Peace PROTOA operations during the period of investigations.
The NEC also cited his alleged repeated engagement in disruptive and inappropriate behaviour at the lorry station—actions they say tarnished the Association’s image and disrupted its smooth operations.
PROTOA concludes that these combined offences informed their decision to permanently dismiss Mr. Soga from the Association.
