…Without Provision For Toilet, Urinal & Staff Common Room

The Municipal Chief Executive for Suhum Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region, Margret Darko Dankwa has been cited for blowing a whopping Gh¢106,157.50 on the construction of a 3-unit classrooms at Adarkwa Electoral area.
Interestingly, the newly constructed edifice was built without toilet facilities for both students and teachers, no staff common room and washroom, which has set tongues wagging in the municipality as to why the Assembly would engage in such illegality.
The situation is creating tension in the electoral area with the possibility of it escalating after the assembly members and Chiefs of Adarkwa who could not comprehend how such an amount of money would be spent on just a 3-unit classrooms, called for accountability on the part of the MCE.
The assembly member of Adarkwa electoral area, Hon. Asare Agyei who raised concerns over the amount said, he had made efforts to get the MCE to explain the rationale behind spending such huge amount of money on that project alone, but was unsuccessful.
He questioned the rationale behind the assembly will constructed a 3-unit classrooms without toilet, no staff common room and washroom at such an amount of Gh¢106,157.50.
He said these and many inflated costs of projects have brought divisions between some assembly members and the MCE, Margret Darko.
Hon. Asare Agyei added that the assembly members of Suhum have vowed to ensure that the MCE accounts for the money squandered.
Some of the opinions leaders in the area who spoke to the media said, when they contacted the Assembly to verify why the school block was constructed without a toilet, washroom and the staff common room, they were only told to write a letter on it for the Assembly to consider in its next budget.
They, however, appealed to the authorities and auditors to conduct investigations into the said expenditure.
Meanwhile, it has been gathered also that same projects are currently under construction across the municipality which have been awarded by the MCE to some constituency party executives.
