In all civilized societies where leaders of the church live above reproach and mentor the young ones in the society, the situation in Ghana is entirely different in relation to the one-man church activities.
Ghana’s one- man church business is fast becoming an avenue for the vast majority of these so-called men of God veer into the sale of ordinary water as spirit-field water, deceit, fear mongering, rape, fraud, wife snatching, show of opulence among others.
One of those pastors who have been caught in the lenses of this paper’s investigation is popular soothsayer Pastor Nigel Gaisie, the Founder of the Prophetic Hill Chapel in Accra.
Credible report picked -up by this paper has it that since soothsayer completed his tertiary education at the University of Ghana (UG) in 2012, has failed to pay the loan, he took from the Students’ Loans Trust Fund to support his education.
Nine years past, the soothsaying pastor has been showing all manner of opulence on social media platforms without bothering to pay up the loan he took as a student at the university.
Report says all attempts to get the Casanova pastor to pay up his indebtedness to the government agency has proved futile.
The pastor who is supposed to be role model to tertiary students in his church has called the bluff of the Students’ Loans Trust Fund to have him sued.
He said told the state institution that he will not a dime available to the agency knowing very well the moneys he took was not for free at school.
The Management of the Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) says it has begun its annual public sensitization campaign to encourage borrowers of the Fund who are in default to repay loans that they contracted to help meet the costs of their tertiary education.
The SLTF has declared July 2020 Repayment Awareness Month and is undertaking various activities nationwide to sensitize borrowers, employers and the general public about the various platforms that may be used to repay loans.
Since its establishment in 2005, the Fund has disbursed loans to over 120,000 students.
This was contained in a statement signed by the George Ferguson Laing, the
Senior Public Relations Manager of SLTF in Accra.
The SLTF will be using the mass media as well as other stakeholder engagements to carry out the sensitization.
“Over the years, the SLTF has increased the available platforms for borrowers to repay their loans, including through four partner banks as well as the introduction of visa and Mastercard payments and mobile money” said George Ferguson Laing, Head of Public Relations at the Student Loan Trust Fund.
He added that the multiple repayment platforms have been introduced to make the repayment process as flexible and convenient as possible for the borrower.
He encouraged borrowers who are facing difficulties to approach the Fund to renegotiate payment.
“We are due to start prosecutions soon, so those with genuine challenges have a very small window to approach us for renegotiation” he said.
He thanked borrowers who are repaying their loans for doing the right thing and creating the opportunity for a new generation of students to also benefit.
