The entire executives of the New Patriotic Party (NPP)-from regional to branch-as well as sympathizers and even critics of the party in the Western region are beside themselves with gratitude to the flagbearer-Dr Mahamud Bawumia- for including one of their own, Dr. Prince Hamid Armah, in his manifesto team.
The Western Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mr Okatakyie Amankwa Afrifa, in a telephone interview with this paper yesterday, described Dr Armah’s appointment as a good signed that a Bawumia administration in 2025 would not leave westerners behind.
He said, “we are cool and happy about his inclusion in the manifesto committee, especially about the fact that where he was placed is his area. For us, this is a good sign that a future Dr. Bawumia administration, which is just some months away, would prominently feature the western region.”
Other party functionaries told this paper that if Dr. Bawumia proceeds the way he has done, by ensuring regional balance even in his manifesto team, the probability that his administration may be one of the best if not the best the country has witnessed would be very high.
“My brother, NPP really has the men, what! Look at the people who are chairing the various sub committees of the manifesto team, very solid, very knowledgeable young men. I will not be surprised if majority of the manifesto team members eventually become ministers in their respective portfolios. That’s when NDC will know that we really have the men,” a branch executive who did not want to be named told this paper.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwesimintsim has been appointed the chairman of the Manifesto Sub-Committee on Education, as the party prepares toward the December 7 elections.
Dr. Armah served on the Technical Team of the Ministry of Education that developed Ghana’s Education Strategic Plan (ESP) 2018-2030 and, associated Medium-Term Development Plan 2018-2021.
He was the lead education consultant to the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), UK (previously Department for International Development) Partnership Beyond Aid (PBA) programme which drew up a thorough plan for Ghana’s transition to self-reliance through improvements in economic and social sector management, quality service delivery financing, accountability and capacity building.
The MP has consulted for several other funded projects of national and international organizations including The World Bank, USAID, UKAID/FCDO, UN Education Commission, Ministry of Education/Ghana Education Service, among others, contributing to national development in various ways particularly in the areas of research and human capital development.
He holds a PhD degree in Mathematics Education from the University of Aberdeen (UK), an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana Business School, an M.Ed. in Mathematics from the University of Education, Winneba in Ghana and a B.Ed. (Hons) in Mathematics from the same university, in addition to a Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) from the Teaching Regulation Agency (UK).
