Scores of residents and youth of South McCarthy, a community within the Weija Gbawe Municipality in the Greater Accra Region have debunked claims that, they (residents/youth) are complaining bitterly about a drainage Blockage in the area.
Addressing the media, Abubakar Sidik, the Sarki-Hausa Zongo (Hausa Zongo Chief) of Lafaa-Nhleshie, described such publications as pretentious, intended to attract notice and impress others.
The Hausa Zongo Chief, an indigenous son of South McMacarthy community stated that they as the youth of the area have never complained about any Blockage of the “bala” river contrary to a recent reportage accusing Mr. Robert Tang, a Businessman of blocking the passage route of the “bale” river which flows through Mallam junction, a suburb of McCarthy South, all the way to Dansoman.
He recalled the devastating effects heavy downpour have on the lives and properties of the South McCarthy community and its environs.
Speaking further, the traditional leader disclosed that “Indeed we the residents became worried about the drainage system within the area some time ago, and therefore called on the companies around the locality to extend a helping hand.”
According to him, all but the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Royal VVIP Transport Company Mr. Tang, offered to help out by engaging the services of an excavator to desilt the “bale” river for four (4) days until the river begun to flow- freely thereby, solving the flooding issues.
“We are astonished at the accusations levelled against the Businessman as youth of the South McCarthy community because the man in question has singlehandedly employed in his companies, over 70% of the teeming youth of South McCarthy community and surrounding areas thereby, reducing the menace of robbery and other social vices which were hitherto, a major challenge within the community due to rising numbers of unemployment amongst the youth,” Sarki emphasised.
According to the traditional leader, the Chinese Businessman, Mr. Tang has been a blessing to the community, “in fact, he has been very supportive and has the development of the South McCarthy community at heart,” he stressed.
He advised those behind such wrongful accusations to rather settle any differences they have with the man amicably and also refrain from actions and pronouncements that has the potential of dragging the youth and residents of the South McCarthy community into disrepute.
Information gathered by this paper indicates that a Pentecost church sited along the banks of the river have actually filled a session of the river to be used for the construction of a school facility.
The above action by the church according to the source, has caused the river to remain standstill thereby, exposing area to serious flooding whenever there is a heavy downpour.
