Information gathered indicates that the National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party, Sammi Awuku has been assigned to head the Ghana Lottery Authority, which is expected to be announced soon by the President.
The move has generated controversy in the party especially from the youth wing which believes that attempts are being made to end his political career with regard to the appointment.
According to them, there are hundreds of Chief Executive Positions across sectors like The Free Zones Authority, Bulk Oil Supply and Transport BOST, GNPC among others that Sammi Awuku could have been appointed and sent to and moving him to head NLA has been calculated to bring his political career to an end.
They noted that the NLA is a place that is full of controversy where there are daily happening that could totally denigrate or destroy his image forever and that he ought to exercise caution .
“This is a man who placed NPP on his shoulders in opposition all the way from 2012. He was the Deputy Communications Director of NPP at a time that things were tough for the party in opposition , He became the National Youth Organizer of the party and led it to win and retain power in 2016 and 2020 as the national organizer”, the youth lamented . so with all that the Young man has done for the party, moving it from opposition to power, this is the best they can do for him. Its so sad”.
They also believe that assigning Sammi Awuku to the Ghana lottery authority could also jeopadise his political ambitions . He could have a presidential ambition in future and going to NLA , such ambition would be cutailed easily because our church leaders and moslem leaders who see lotto as non religious activity wouldnt want to associate with him., stated a party loyalist.
They see the impending appointment of Sammi Awuku to the Ghana Lottery Authority as a trap and have therefore cautioned him to be careful not to fall into it
So even , if they denied him a ministerial or deputy ministerial appointment, dosent he deserve any decent CEO position?, they querried. Out of the thousand and one positions in government are they saying the only thing They can offer him is the appointment as chief administrator of Ghana Lotto? This is unfortunate”, a member of the Assemblies Of God church where Mr. Awuku is a member stated .
Some members of the church see his appointment to head NLA as awful since it could have negative effect on his christian and religious svalues .
From 2011 to 2013, Sammis Awuku worked at the Communications Directorate of the New Patriotic Party, assisting then Director of Communications, Nana Akomea, before his election as National Youth Organiser in April 2014.
During 2012 Election Petition hearing at the Supreme Court of Ghana, Sammi was charged with contempt of the highest court of the land. He was pardoned after pleading guilty and showing remorse.
As National Youth Organiser, Sammi played a vital role in mobilizing the youth leading to NPP’s victory In 2016, Sammi was number five among fifty most Influential Young Ghanaians ranking.
