Spokesperson for running mate, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s campaign, Fiifi Boafo, has asked flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, to debate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, flagbearer of the NPP rather than asking questions.
According to him, a debate would enable him receive all the answers he is looking for.
Speaking On Okay FM’s ‘Ade Akye Abia’ programme, he queried the former president for running from a debate and asking questions which he himself had the answers because it is reflecting in the economy.
“Why pose questions while avoiding a debate with Veep Bawumia?” he quizzed.
“Is it the case that Mr Mahama wants to ask questions but does not want to provide answers to begging questions he has to answer?”
“When you believe in yourself and your capabilities like what I believe Dr. Bawumia can do, I don’t expect to go about answering questions when he has clearly proven to Ghanaians that he is capable of managing the economy,” he said.
“If former President Mahama believes that he has good policies to offer, then he should join Dr. Bawumia in a debate so that Ghanaians can know who is the real person to handle Ghana’s economy better,” he added.
He further said stated that if Mr. Mahama was interested answer that position issues of the country to the voter then a platform to debate will be the place to be.
“He will not debate Dr Bawumia because he knows the fine Economist has a superior record and capacity,” he noted.
John Mahama has publicly posed five questions to Dr. Bawumia, focusing on Ghana’s economic difficulties, including the depreciation of the cedi, the national debt increase, rising inflation, a reported GH¢24 million loan from the Bank of Ghana, and Dr. Bawumia’s shift from economic issues to digitalisation initiatives.
The questions reflect long-standing concerns over Ghana’s economic direction, with Mr. Mahama contending that Bawumia has strayed from economic priorities that previously defined his agenda.
