Taking a cursory look at the average Ghanaian church and what we do, it is safe to conclude that; The Ghanaian church today appears vibrant but is vulnerable. It is full of activity, yet often lacking depth. Our buildings are full, but our hearts are often empty of Christ. We have raised church members who pursue God’s hand more than His heart. Until the church becomes Christ-rooted instead of need-driven, it will not stand when persecution comes.
Today’s believer is more familiar with claiming blessings than carrying crosses, leading to a generation that views suffering as lack of faith or failure instead of spiritual formation.
The strength of the early church was not in its social media platforms and trends, big ecclesiastical titles, personalities or popularity but in its discipleship. Believers were trained to grow in character, faith, and endurance. They were ready to suffer for Christ because they were grounded in truth.
The modern church in Ghana and across Africa must rediscover the foundation of discipleship. Without depth through discipleship, our numbers will not stand the test of persecution and the noise of our activities can never replace the power of spiritual maturity.
