A Virginia based Non-Government Organization (NGO), Dignify Legends Keep Fit Cub, last Friday, presented some accoutrements to the Ghana Police Service, in a brief but impressive and colourful ceremony, at the premises of the Airport District Police Headquarters, in Accra.
The presentation was in fulfillment of the club’s promise to resource the police in crime combating and other arrears of needs when some representatives of the club paid a courtesy call on the office of the then director of operations at the Police Headquarters in July, 2020.
The founder, Emmanuel Obuobi, popularly known in soccer circles as Coach Abega ably assisted by Nana AntwiPinamangDankwah II, chief of AkyemAhweaso and a patron made the presentation on behalf of the USA based club.
They presented fifty (50) pieces of Bullet Proof, Five metal detectors and quantities of Police Band Dress.
Coach Abega, during the presentation, reiterated Dignify Legends Keep Fit Club’s commitment to support the Ghana Police Service with accoutrements to combat crime, which is surging at an alarming proportion in our society. This negative tendencies, he said, hampers societal development and therefore need the contribution of every citizenry both home and abroad to help fight to reduce the menace.
Receiving the items, chief superintendent Bismark Agyapong, the divisional commander at the Airport Police headquarters thanked the donors for their kind gesture towards the Ghana Police Service. He assured that every item received would be put to good use to achieve the needed goal.
Chief Superintendent, Eric Asiedu, the District Commander in charge at the Airport Police headquarters, who is the brain behind the laudable achievement applauded the entire executives of Dignify legends club for having the Ghana Police Service at heart and doing everything within their limit to resource the service with their funds and materials.
DSP (retired) Joseph Kwame Amoah, an uncle to Coach Abega who was in active service for 39 years enumerated wide range of challenges confronting the Police Service to meet societal demands. He indicated that the task is too huge for government alone to carry and therefore urged other organizations and Ghanaians in the diaspora to emulate the gesture by Dignify Legends Keep Fit Club.
Also present at the presentation was DSP Kwesi Kwarteng, District Crime Officer at the Airport Police Headquarters, ZenasKoranteng Mensah, a nephew to Coach Abega and Daniel Sarpong, a member of the Ghana branch of Legends Keep Fit Club.
Whilst acknowledging the effort of the club, Chief SupoAsiedu pleaded with them to consider the size of the Police force which is over 33 thousand and make a much bigger donations in the future. He asked for God’s care over them as they labour in foreign land to make life better.
The genesis to these successful event was the idea of Chief Superintendent Eric Asiedu, District Commander at the Airport Police Headquarters.
While on a working visit to the United States some few years ago, he interacted with the executive and members of Dignity Legends Keep Fit after one of their usual morning workout.
He briefed them about the security issues in Ghana and allayed their fears about some negative media reportage about Ghana in a state of insecurity on the internet.
He assured them Police of protection to their goods and property but to add that to police service need their support in areas of accoutrement like bullet proof, metal detectors and other tools to combat crime.
His great speech influenced and motivated Coach Abega and his members to respond to their (Police) needs.
This is not the first time Dignity Legend Keep Fit Club has extended its benevolent arm to help solve societal needs.
In 2017, the club made its maiden presentation to the national under 17 youth team at the Ghanaman Center of Soccer Excellence at Prampram when the team, under Coach PaaKwesiFaben, was in preparation for the youth world cup tournament in Japan.
Items presented were a quantity of energy and assorted drinks as well as oranges and water melons.
Then in 2020, the people of Awukugua in the Eastern Region were blessed with various types of Gym equipment aimed at helping the youth within the Akwapim north towns of Abiriw, Dawu, Awukugua, Adukrom and Apirade to keep them in good physically health.
The Prampram items were presented by Coach Abega, Coach Ebenezer Sefa, Reginald Obuobi and the late Abdul Karim Midjimawhilest Nana AntwiPinamangDankwah II and coach Abega presented the Gym Equipment on behalf of the Club at the Awukugua Durbar grounds.
