The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, Kingsley Agyemang, has reiterated that nothing will deter him from his determination to grow and groom talents in the Abuakwa South municipality.
He made this affirmation at the launch of the Kingsley Keep Fit Club Inter High School Football Gala Competition held at the Conference Room of the Abuakwa South Municipal Education Directorate yesterday.
The gala completion will involve six schools from the Municipality made up of Abuakwa State College, Akyem Apedwa Senior High School, Kibi Sec Tech, St Stephens High School, Kibi Technical High School and Akyem Asafo Senior High School.
Speaking at the launch, Mr Agyemang mentioned that the Kingsley Keep Fit Club formed in 2019 undertook its first major objective by registering over 5000 inhabitants of the area freely onto the National Health Insurance Scheme to allow them to access free quality healthcare.
He added that he has, through the support of other benevolent organisations, pushed education higher through the organization of the Kingsley Science and Maths Quiz and the Kingsley Spelling Challenge.
Gala
The football Competition, according to Mr Agyemang, whilst ensuring that the students are grown physically, will again unearth talents in the municipality.
“For me I believe development is total and for any single individual to think that development of an area is his repository is very ridiculous,” he said.
“For us, every child, every person within this municipality, is an asset therefore we will use power to empower the next generation and not the next election,” he said
He said nothing will stop him from empowering people since they drive value.
For Mr Agyemang, what is important to him, is the need to build a mass of solid intellectuals who will provide solutions to the myriad of problems confronting the country.
“All the natural resources we have will be extinct one day but the tenacity of the human mind when it is well developed can do exploits. This is my conviction and this is what I will continue to be committed to,” he pledged.
Investing in football
Taking his turn, President of the Ghana Football Association, who was the Special Guest of Honour, Kurt Okraku, expressed his appreciation for being part of the important exercise.
Describing himself as a disciple of grassroot football, the GFA President commended Mr Agyemang for the massive investment in the youth.
“Our tomorrow belongs to the youth and it is the reason why we are investing in the youth. If we do not invest in the youth of our today, our tomorrow will be empty,” he stressed.
The GFA President said the decision by Mr Agyemang to empower the youth in the municipality will in in the long run serve the country in general.
Game
The First runner up will walk away with a cash prize of GHC3,000, a set of jerseys, 10 footballs, 300 exercise books with all final years of the school being given free registration for the maiden WAEC online past question.
The ultimate winner will be given a cash prize of GHC5000, a set of jerseys, 15 footballs, 500 exercise books, free registration for the WAEC online past questions for all final year students of the school, a chance to watch all black stars game in Ghana for this year in the country and a project not costing more than GHC20,000 will be undertaken in the school.
Again, special prizes will be given to individuals who excel during the competition including the Luki Golden Boot Award for the top goal scorer, the GFA Best Player Award, and the Buela Golden Gloves Award for the best goalkeeper who will all have the opportunity to go to Qatar to watch for the world cup.
