Ghanaians, especially the youth have been urged to focus on the achievement of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and support its innovative programmes aimed at investing and building the capacity of the youth rather than the National Democratic Congress(NDC) whose stock in trade is investing in intangible projects that has no value.
The National Youth Organiser of the party, Salam Mustapha, said this at an event organised by the youth wing on the theme: “Building leaders for party and country.”
According to him, the NPP government unlike the opposition NDC has over the years rolled out several projects and programmes; including the Free SHS aimed at empowering the youths.
He said “Today we can tell the difference between a good government and a bad one was the one that decided to invest in Guinea fowls, a good government is the one that has decided to build schools to bring free SHS, to build 111 hospitals at a go, to buy over 300 ambulances at a go, all for the good people of this country and that is what a good leader does and that is why at the National youth wing we want to continue to build good, responsible leaders for this country and for this party.”
“Preparing for an arduous task like breaking the 8, winning elections three times in a row is no joke. That is why the National youth wing have thought it wise to be innovative in ensuring that we reach out to more young people who will continue to join this party and continue with the traditional that is how this beautiful concept was born, the mentorship forum” he added
He, therefore, called on members of the party especially the youth wing in various tertiary institutions to support the party’s drive towards increasing the party’s votes to enable the party win the 2024 elections.
“I happen to be a deputy under this iconic leader, Sammi Awuku and with a combined strength, forces energy, determination, fortitude, we took the NDC to the cleanest with almost one million votes, the biggest ever margin in the political history of this country and nobody can do more than what the combined energy of young people in this country can do. It is for us to show courage, attitude and fortitude. Seeing all the youth seated here today gives me the biggest joy and belief that we shall do it,” he stressed
The youth organiser further said the exercise aimed at grooming and raising leaders from the various tertiary Institutions would be replicated across the regions with internship packages attached to shape young minds to become responsible leaders for the party and the country as a whole.
Sammi Awuku, Managing Director of the National Lottery Authority (NLA), and former National Organiser of the party who spoke on political communication asked the youth to understand issues before they make efforts to communicate on them.
While acknowledging the role of effective communication in any political discourse, he also asked members of the party who may not be effective speakers to focus on writing, party organisation among several other roles which were equally important.
Mr. Awuku also encouraged women in the party not to ‘shy away’ from engaging in active communication like while learning from other women who have taken up roles at the National level.
He also commended all the past executives of the party who have mentored most of them in various capacities.
The event which brought together some current and past executives of the party, TESCON executives from the tertiary institutions among several others, discussed topics such as political communication, use of social media, human development in politics, career development and leadership.
