The ambition of Mr. Fredrick Kakraba Sam to become the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Takoradi Constituency in the Western Region, is threatened by a petition bordering on fraud.
The petition, dated February 25, 2020 was submitted to the NPP Committee which vetted parliamentary aspirants in the Western Region, on Monday.
The Petitioner, Mr. Bernard Bartels-Boham, a US-based Ghanaian, contends in his petition that Mr. Sam should be disqualified from the party’s upcoming parliamentary primaries, alleging that the latter defrauded him by illegally using his credit card.
The petitioner explained that in 2017, he accommodated Mr. Sam and the wife in his home in Maryland, United States.
“I accommodated him as a friend and a ‘brother’, but unfortunately, he had ulterior motive…
“Kakraba Sam had earlier on used my address to shop online with stolen credit cards and the items were delivered at my address until I got to know and warned him.
“Little did I know that my own credit card has also been compromised to the tune of $3900”, Mr Bartels-Boham alleged in his petition
According to the petitioner, Fred Kakraba Sam returned to Ghana knowing very well that he (Bartels-Boham) may press charges against him in the US.
“I also came to Ghana and reported the case at the Kwesimintim Police Station because I reside at Airport Ridge and I gave my statement in November 2018 and pursued the case”.
He said Mr. Sam later agreed to pay him back his money and went ahead to pay $2,000 out of the amount.
He said Mr. Sam however refused to pay the rest of the money despite several attempts to get him pay.
“So I have taken keen interest to report this case to the reputable vetting committee and humbly pray the committee to take a special interest in this and disqualify Frederick Kakraba Sam from contesting the primaries”, the petition read.
Meanwhile, Mr. Sam has denied the allegations against him.
He is reported to have told journalists shortly after his vetting that the allegations were false and must be treated with contempt.
The Vetting Committee is yet to make public its decision on the petition.
