Our attention has been drawn to a publication in the New Crusading Guide published on 24th September, 2020. We wish to state that the publication on the above subject is in bad taste as Management was not consulted for clarification in order to ensure a fair and balanced reportage.
We believe that this publication which has the photograph of the Director General but bearing a different name is a deliberate effort to smear his image. As you are well aware, salaries and allowances of Staff are paid through the Controller and Accountant Generals Department, once they have been approved by the Public Services Commission. Due to these processes, it is not possible to divert Staff allowances for the personal use of members of Management. Therefore, Management of the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC), wishes to state emphatically that there is no iota of truth in said publication by The New Crusading Guide.
The Ghana Atomic Energy Commission is committed to seeking the welfare of all its Staff at all times and will under no circumstances discriminate or treat any of its Staff unfairly. In any case, there are laid down procedures to address grievances at the Commission.
It is worthy of note that over the years, GAEC has had and continues to have a cordial relationship with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission in negotiating Staff salaries.
We also wish to indicate that GAEC is bound by international protocols for the safety and security of Ghana’s nuclear materials due to the government’s ratification of internal conventions and treaties on peaceful uses of nuclear energy. To this end, any decision to embark on a strike or demonstration cannot be taken lightly. The decision must satisfy strict national security requirements as well as International protocols.
Management thus requests The New Crusading Guide to retract the story, with information from this letter, giving it the same prominence as the initial reportage and render an unqualified apology to the Management of the Commission and the Director General by 9th October, 2020.
Finally, we entreat The New Crusading Guide to do due diligence before publishing stories on their platforms. Cross checking of facts is basic to good journalistic practice and we ask The New Crusading Guide to adhere to such good practice in future.
