President of the Republic and Presidential Candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has called on the people of Ghana to replicate the peaceful nature of the 1st of December special voting exercise on the 7th of December 2020 when the entire country goes to the polls to elect its President and members of Parliament for the next four years.
The President in his remarks at the commissioning ceremony of the Bantama District Police Headquarters in the Bantama Constituency, today the 2nd of December 2020, supported the call by the Ashanti Region Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Kwasi Mensah Duku, who charged the People of Ghana in his welcome remarks, to conduct themselves in such a manner that the country will experience a peaceful election on the 7th of December 2020.
“I support the call by COP asking the people of Ghana to follow after the peaceful manner in which the security agencies and other identifiable groups voted yesterday (1st December) without any negative incidents. I join him and i ask everyone to go and vote peaceful. The elections ahead of us is essentially to make a choice and not a fight” President Akufo-Addo said.
“If all competing parties in this election stick to their message, there will be no need for the use of force. Anyone who uses force simply has no message for the Ghanaian electorate. Let us therefore endeavor to make the 7th of December elections a peaceful exercise” President Akufo-Addo added.
Regional Police Commander
The Ashanti Region Police Commander, Commissioner of Police (COP) Kwasi Mensah Duku, in his welcome address said the Police Service is ready to provide the people of Ghana with maximum security during the elections. To the end, he urged all registered voters to come out freely to exercise their franchise.
Culture of Maintenance
On the maintenance of the new edifice, the regional commander indicated even though the Police service has had difficulties in the past when it comes to the maintenance of their buildings, under his watch, the regional command will ensure the proper maintenance of the facility.
“We pledge to take good care of the building handed over to us. Our officers are aligned and they will ensure that all the facilities are kept in good condition” COP Kwasi Mensah Duku stated.
Information Sharing
By way of an appeal to the good people of Ghana, COP Mensah Duku, called on the general public to support the efforts of the Police Service to fight crime and maintain the peace of the nation, by volunteering information on the activities of criminals in their communities for prompt action against their activities.
