…Residents Greet Exercise With Great Joy
The entire Central Business District (CBD) of the Tamale metropolis, was yesterday, April 2, 2020 shut down for an immediate mass disinfection exercise as part of efforts by the government to prevent and contain the spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the metropolis and its environs.
The exercise which was carried out by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development together with Zoomlion Ghana Limited saw traders in all markets and financial institutions within the entire CBD area and along the principal streets in the metropolis locking their shops as the exercise went on.
The disinfection exercise came off at a time the metropolis has recorded 10 positive COVID -19 cases among 10 ECOWAS nationals made up of eight Guineans and two Burkinabes.
It was reported that a female Guinean, aged about 21 escaped from quarantine thereby exposing the entire population in the metropolis to the deadly virus, hence the exercise.
During the exercise, the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE) for Tamale, Mr Iddrisu Musah urged the public to cooperation with government and adhere to the restrictions laid down by the Health authorities.
Almost all the markets in the Tamale Metropolis including the Tamale Central market, Aboabo market, Lamashegu market, Kukuo and Bipela markets have been disinfected as well as some principal streets in the metropolis.
Residents have welcomed the exercise and expressed gratitude to government and Zoomlion Ghana Limited, saying it is timely and important in the wake of the metropolis recording 10 positive cases of COVID-19.
Meanwhile, since the last situational update on the COVID-19 Cases, Ghana has confirmed nine additional COVID-19 cases, all from Greater Accra region.
Four (4) of them
have no history of travel nor contact with any confirmed case whilst the other
four (4) have no travel history but are contacts of confirmed cases in Ghana;
and one travelled to Ghana from Benin within the past 14 days.
As at 2nd April 2020, Ghana has recorded 204 cases COVID-19 with five (5)
deaths.
The number of
regions reporting cases remain five (5) (Greater Accra, Ashanti, Northern,
Upper West and Eastern).
The Greater Accra Region has most of the cases (183) followed by the
Northern Region (10), Ashanti Region (9), Upper West Region (1) and Eastern
Region (1).
Most of the cases are reported from routine and enhanced surveillance
activities and cases from travellers under mandatory quarantine remain 89.
