Management of 2M Express Transport Union has described as unpleasant and attacks on its loading premises at the Asafo Terminal in the Ashanti Region by some thugs believed to have been led by one Mr. Asamoah and masterminded by the G. P. R. T. U and V. I. P.
There have been reports that on October 29, 2019, some traders blocked 2M Express Transport Company from operating its Asafo Terminal in Kumasi.
This however led to the destruction of one of the Union Vans, disappearance of their Laptop and Amplifiers, the destruction of their container office and the disconnection of their light3system at the premises.
This has been reported to the police for investigations.
But at a Press Conference to set the facts of the issue, the Convener and PRO of 2M Express Transport Union , Honourable Joe-Oppong noted that claims that 2M EXPRESS is for Honourable Okyem Aboagye, MP for Bantama are “malicious and false.”
According to him, 2M Express is not for Honourable Okyem Aboagye alone but rather a limited liability company which has other directors as part of the business.
He said: “It is right to state that Honourable Okyem Aboagye is a share holder of the said company but that does not guarantee the propagandist to capture on the honourable member’s position to make politics out of it; that department is purely business and nothing more.”
He also averred that the company, 2M Express has been in operation over a year and half now with one of the best terminal across the country precisely Greater Accra, bringing the need for the opening of same terminal in the Kumasi Metropolis.
Joe-Oppong said the company had to partner Mighty Transport to also use their yard for loading as they have grown from 20 cars to over 40 cars and still expecting more.
He also debunked the allegation that 2M Express has two stations in Asafo, nothing that the branded building which has become the bone of contention is a parcel office and resting rooms for their drivers and not a station as they claim.
“On our reaction of the V.I.P/ G.P.R.T.U Loading Space, we sent a delegation to officially inform and thank them for hosting us for the past year and half which was met with open arms from them, thereby on our surprise on the turn of events now. 2M Express is today calling on the authorities as a matter of urgency see to it that this long standing disagreements that always emerges is put to a closure. Stating few, we can talk of G.P.R.T.U/ V.I.P against M plaza, O.A and also S.T.C now, it is the turn of 2M Express. The question is WHO IS NEXT?” he added.
The Union is calling on the authorities to bring Mr. Asamoah the trustee of G.P.R.T.U who led the vandalisation exercise to book, stressing that Ghana is a free market State which brings about competition thereby giving quality service to customers.
“In view of that 2M Express brings on board quality service and affordability into our transport system and must be allowed to do so without any hindrance. We call on all and sundry and also stakeholders to step in and ensure peaceful co-existence at the Asafo Terminal,” he maintained.
