Maj-Gen Francis Adu Amanfo, the National Security Coordinator has been given the highest national award given to foreigners for service to the Republic of Mali. 

It was given to him in a colorful ceremony yesterday at the Mali Embassy here in Accra.

The Ambassador of Mali to Ghanaian and on behalf of the good people of Mali presented the award ceremony held at their embassy in Accra.

The Minister for National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah, was in attendance to represent the Government of Ghana.

Maj-Gen.  Adu Amanfo who served in Mali as ambassador to Ghana and helped the people of Mali in various fields took the opportunity to thank the people of Mali for the honor done him

Amabassador (Maj-Gen) Francis Adu-Amanfoh (Rtd) H.E. Maj. Gen. Francis Adu-Amanfoh (Rtd), affectionately known as “General”, served in diverse command and staff leadership positions in the Ghana Armed Forces for 37 good years.

He spearheaded the reorganization of Military Intelligence and the establishment of the Department of Defence Intelligence of the Ghana Armed Forces and was appointed its first Chief of Defense Intelligence (CDI). He also spearheaded the reorganization of the Army Corps of Engineers and the establishment of 48 Engineer Regiment and was appointed its first Commanding Officer.

He was also pivotal in the establishment of the Directorate of Army Peacekeeping Operations at Ghana Army Headquarters and was appointed its first Director. Spearheaded the establishment of the Department of Plans and Development of the Ghana Armed Forces and was appointed its first Director of Plans.

The “General” has held many high-level international appointments including Senior Planning Officer at the Department of Peacekeeping Operations (DPKO) of the United Nations Headquarters in New York, USA, and a Military Adviser to Ghana’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York, USA.

He served as Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Liberia from 2006-2009. Prior to his appointment as National Security Coordinator, he was the resident Ambassador of Ghana to the Republic of Mali, with concurrent accreditation to the Islamic Republic of Mauritania.

Gen. Adu-Amanfoh is an MBA Graduate of the University of Liverpool (UK); Graduate of International Intelligence Fellows Program at US Defence Intelligence Agency Joint Military Intelligence College, Washington DC, (2005) and was inducted Fellow of the International Intelligence Fellowship Forum (IIFF) and a Global Peace and Security Analyst. A Graduate of Royal School of Military Engineering, Chatham, Kent in the United Kingdom (UK); Diploma in Military Engineering from the United States Army Engineer School, Fort Belvoir, Virginia; Graduate of International Intelligence Directors Course at the Defence Intelligence and Security School, Chicksands, Bedfordshire, UK. Graduate of Civil-Military Strategy for Internal Development Course at the US Air Force Special Operations School, Florida (2000). Graduate of United States Army Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas (June 1986-June 1987) as comparative studies, and was adjudged Distinguished Allied Officer Graduate; Graduate of Ghana Armed Forces Senior Staff College (August 1984-August 1985) and was Honour Graduate (1st in Order of Merit). He also hold a postgraduate certificate in Human Resource Management and a Diploma in Senior Management and Leadership Development.
