A self-styled businessman has been arraigned for allegedly double- selling a piece of land to several people at Pantang, in Accra, and also, for allegedly issuing dishonoured cheque.
Gideon Kamasah, been charged with fraudulent transaction and issue of fake cheque before an Accra Circuit Court pleaded not guilty to all of the charges.
The accused was presented before the court presided over by Her Honour Kizita Naa Koowa Quarshie by the prosecutor led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sylvester Asare yesterday.
The court has granted Kamasah bail in the sum of G¢300,000 with two sureties and adjourned the case to January 10, 2023.
According to DSP Asare, the complainants in the case are Wilson Emeka and John Nyarko and love on Accra.
He said sometime in March 2022, Wilson reported to the Police that in September 2021, the accused demanded and received cash in the sum of GH¢480,000 to grant him [Wilson] a walled parcel of land located in front Kamasah’s house at Pantang.
The prosecutor added that after Kamasah received the said money failed to release the land as promised.
He stated that the matter was referred for investigation and that whilst the matter was still under investigation, John also reported the accused to the Police that sometime in January 2022, Kamasah purportedly sold the same piece of land in front of his house to him at the cost of GH¢300,000.
DSP Asare indicated that the accused was, subsequently, arrested and during interrogation he admitted granting the same parcel of land to the complainants.
According to him, further investigations revealed that when Wilson moved his workmen to the land to commence development, he observed that some people had posted notice of injunction on the fence wall.
He said when Wilson followed up to the accused to inquire about the post, the latter allegedly told him that one Paa Kwasi had commenced action against him, the accused.
“Similarly, when John sent his workers to the site to begin construction, accused stopped the workers and asked John to hold on pending an alleged rezoning of the area,” he stated.
DSP Asare informed the trial court that investigations also revealed that at the time the accused leased the land to the complainants, he did not have the authority to do so since the land was encumbered.
The court was told that when John requested for a refund of his money, the accused issued a post-dated cheque with the face value of GH¢300,000.00 to be withdrawn at a bank.
Unfortunately, the prosecutor alleged that when presented the cheque at the bank it was dishonoured due to lack of funds.
He added that it was on this basis that Kamasah was charged and arraigned.
