A large number of thugs numbering over 15 have attacked the shops and offices of one Kwaku Asante, popularly known among the mobile phone dealers as ‘O’YES’ and vandalized some of his displayed products estimated at ¢ 25,000. This incident occurred on Friday 6th January, 2023 at the Tip Toe Lane, near the Kwame Nkrumah circle.
Narrating the story to the New Crusading Guide, the visibly worried businessman, O’YES who deals in quality and genuine mobile phones, laptops and cameras with over 18 years work experience in the industry explained that a certain Emmanuel Gameli came to purchase a high profile camera at a cost of ¢30,500 from his office. As expected in every transaction, Mr. Gameli was taken through all the requirements to ascertain the validity of the camera before making payment and received receipt as such.
After several hours of purchasing the camera, Mr. Gameli who occasionally buys from the shops of O’YES came back to express his disinterest in the camera and demanded a refund of his ¢30,500 which was refused by O’YES. This generated into a heated argument with Gameli threatening hell should he refuse to refund the money.
Moments after his threat and with a phone call, the thugs emerged in a Rambo style on their motorbikes virtually turned the business friendly atmosphere of the Tip Toe Lane into a war zone and immediately. They were seen attacking and brutalizing the workers of O’YES with impunity and making away with 2 iphone 13 promax, micro laptop and other valuables. They also succeeded in holding the workforce captive in the office for more than 3 hours, with threats to do worse until the money is repaid to Mr. Gameli. Their actions drew a large crowd to the scene as police from Tesano were called to restore peace and order but to no avail. It took reinforcement from central police patrol team to calm tempers but shockingly, no arrest was made.
The police asked O’YES and 3 of his staff with Mr. Gameli to accompany them to the Tesano police station for their reports. On reaching the Vodafone traffic light, the police patrol team decided to take them to the Accra regional headquarters. The behaviour of the police through their interaction with Mr Gameli aroused suspicion making it obvious that their arrival on the crime scene was orchestrated by Mr Gameli. After penning down their statements, they were all hauled behind bars. But surprisingly, Mr Gameli was released from the cell a few hours on while O’YES and his staff were detained to the next day and also made to cough the ¢30,500 before being granted bail. Ironically, none of the thugs who vandalized shop and made away with the iPhones and the laptop has been arrested.
