Dr. Emmanuel Borkor Nuakoh, a parliamentary aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who recently lost in the primaries for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, has vehemently denied allegations of receiving financial support totalling GH¢1.7 million from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
In his statement to the media, Dr. Nuakoh refuted the claims as baseless attempts to tarnish his reputation within the party.
He emphasized that such allegations, including the accusation of receiving funds from the NDC National Chairman, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, were fabricated lies aimed at undermining his integrity.
Attributing his defeat to these unfounded accusations, Dr. Nuakoh expressed his commitment to the NPP, highlighting his extensive service to the party in various capacities.
He cited his involvement in the NPP National IT team during the 2020 general elections, as well as his role as head of operations at the IT Directorate.
Additionally, he played a significant part in the 2021 Election Petition, serving as the IT analyst for the NPP Legal Team at the national level.
Dr. Nuakoh called upon the leadership of the party to intervene and address the situation promptly to prevent further division.
He expressed disappointment over the delay in reconciliation efforts, noting that despite assurances of a reconciliation team visiting the constituency, no concrete steps have been taken even after 100 days post-election.
Highlighting the importance of internal unity, Dr. Nuakoh urged the party leadership at all levels – Constituency, Regional, and National Executives – to ensure a fair hearing and initiate reconciliation ahead of the 2024 polls.
He warned that if his concerns were not addressed adequately, he would be compelled to consider contesting the seat as an independent candidate.
The call for reconciliation underscores the significance of internal cohesion within political parties, especially as preparations for future elections loom. Dr. Nuakoh’s stance reflects a broader need for transparency, fairness, and unity to uphold the principles of democracy within the party.
