The Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs (GARHC) has rubbish as fraudulent the installation of one Parker Kwaku as the Chief of Prampram in the Greater Accra Region, which they say did not go through the due process.
This was contained in a letter signed by the Registrar of the GARHC, Nathan Danquah in response to a query from the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs on whether there is a Chief in Prampram.
The Ministry’s letter to the GARHC was to ascertain the claims made by the Anor We Royal Family of Prampram the legitimate kingmakers of Prampram in a petition against the purported installation of Parker Kwaku.
According to the petition which was sent to the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, the Anor We Royal Family; through their Solicitors stated that after the death of the previous chief, Nene Tetteh Djan III, certain unauthorized persons imposed onto themselves the tiltle of kingmakers without any authority to install a new Paramount Chief who according to them, is not a member of the Royal Family.
According to them, Justice David Abbey and Naomi Annorkor Abbey have clandestinely and without due customary practices claimed to have installed a new Paramount Chief.
“The three accredited kingmakers, Abbey/Doku Mansro We, Tetteh Djan/Larbi Agbo We and Kwei Opleitu Waka We, have strongly opposed the attempt to install a new paramount chief without authority but have been met with brutalities. These persons have employed land guards and soldiers to terrorize anybody who attempts to oppose them such that complaints have been made to the relevant Security Agencies,” they stated.
The Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs then referred the matter to the Greater Accra Regional House of Chiefs for clarifications and it emerged that, “the purported installation process and confinement was nullified by the security agencies for not following due process and also for maintaining peace and order within the Prampram Traditional Area and its environs.”
According to GARHC, before a person is installed a paramount chief of any area, he has to satisfy all the royal and customary requirements.
“The candidate must be nominated, selected by the three prevailing gates of Prampram which rotates. The candidate after the selection is presented to the Dzaase who are made up of nine family heads as the main kingmakers. The Dzaase, after their confirmation of the candidate them present him to the Mankralo who together with elders of the Kle and the Chief Priest will then put the symbol of Authority around the neck of the preferred candidate. The Mankralo will then present the candidate back to the Dzaase and the Prampram Stool father for confinement,” GARHC stated.
It also indicated that the supposed candidate, Parker Kwaku, did not pass through due process and that the Mankralo who played key role in the installation of Paramount Chiefs in Prampram was out of the country and for that matter whoever performed that duty was not clothed with the authority to do so.
