The Greater Accra Regional Police Command, led by DCOP Mr. Duuti Tuaruka in collaboration with the Adentan District Commander, Chief Superintendent Lamptey Frederick Senanu, has arrested four individuals suspected to be land guards working for Trasaco Company, following allegations of illegal demolition of a resident’s house in Pantang.
The arrests come after a landmark Supreme Court ruling in the case of Jeleel Company Ghana Limited versus Trassaco, where the Court delivered a unanimous 5-0 judgment against Trassaco, quashing all legal claims by the company.
Despite this clear legal directive, Trasaco reportedly encroached upon the neighboring land of Mr. Philip Okpoti Nai to expand its Akwaba Project.
This expansion allegedly involved the illegal demolition of residential structures without proper court orders.
Following reports of the demolition, the Regional Police Commander intervened, leading to the arrest of three land guards initially, with a fourth individual apprehended later for suspected involvement in the illegal activities.
The suspects are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
In a dramatic response, angry residents took matters into their own hands, setting ablaze all four excavators owned by Trasaco that were used in the demolition.
Police quickly stabilized the situation, promising a thorough investigation and prosecution of all offenders.
Some residents have expressed frustration, alleging that Trassaco operates with political protection, claiming ties to President John Dramani Mahama.
They voiced their determination to seek justice independently if the authorities fail to act decisively.
However, efforts by Trassaco to leverage political influence have reportedly been unsuccessful.
Sources indicate that Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu are displeased with the company’s actions and have urged the Regional Commander to ensure strict adherence to the rule of law. “The government cannot allow foreigners to terrorize Ghanaians on their own soil,” a source said.
The four suspected land guards were arraigned before the Adentan Circuit Court on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, where Her Ladyship remanded them in custody pending further investigations.
The court also ordered Trasaco to provide a written statement ahead of the next hearing.
Police investigations at the Adentan Police Station reveal that Trasaco’s lawyer, Kwame Tanor, had advised the company to respect the Supreme Court’s decision.
Despite this counsel, Trasaco is alleged to have disregarded the ruling and is currently seeking assurance from police that it will not face arrest should it submit a statement.
The situation remains under tight police surveillance as the legal process unfolds.
We managed to interview one of the residents who is a victim of Trasaco’s atrocities by name, Madam Grace Durowaa, who narrated that she is an average Ghanaian woman and a mother who have worked and saved for the past 25 years to put up roof over her head and children.
Prior to buying the land conducted, a search indicated the land title certificate in the of Jeleel.
“I made further enquiries to the chiefs of Adantan and Pantang, and they all confirmed that that area has been duly acquired by Jeleel Company from both families. I started my building at my house in December 2019, but no one has ever challenged the ownership. I have completed the building remaining few finishing touches, Just last week, Trassaco sent one man called Sammy as an engineer for Trassaco that my house is on their way, and they intend to break it and that I should allow them to break it for compensation.  I refuse that my house is far from their project, and I am moving in very soon. The engineer said if I don’t agree, Trassaco will still break it anyway because he has the backing of the government. There are over 800 houses in the estate, so why is it that it is only my property that is on your way. Sunday 5am, I got a called from my caretaker Trassaco was breaking my house. I got there, and there were about 12 land guards dressed in black holding, pointing that they have orders from Trassaco to break it down. I thank the Adentan District police and the regional commander as well as Her Ladyship Angela Attachie for standing to this oppressor and wicked man Trassaco who has used one day to destroy all that I have worked for the past 25 years,” she narrated.
Authorities have vowed to follow the matter closely to ensure justice is served.
