The Royal Akua Korang Akwamu Abrade Family of Asamankese in the Eastern Region has made a desperate appeal to President John Dramani Mahama, the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, and the Inspector-General of Police to step in and bring an end to the bitter chieftaincy dispute tearing the town apart.
For years, Asamankese has been caught in the storm of having two rival chiefs—a situation the family describes as a tragedy that is breeding fear, driving away investors, and holding the community’s development hostage.
Speaking with visible frustration at the family’s ancestral home, Akwamu Fie, Osabarima Kentinka Pobi Asomaning, the man who insists he is the rightful chief of Asamankese, lamented the silence and inaction of state authorities.
“We have secured rulings from every competent judicial and traditional body—the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs Judicial Committee, the Akyem Abuakwa Traditional Council Judicial Committee, and even the High Court in Koforidua,” he said. “Yet, nothing has been done. Our rights are being trampled on, and Asamankese is paying the price.”
According to him, a fresh petition submitted earlier this year has gone unanswered, leaving the family feeling abandoned. He accused authorities of looking on while their rival, Osabarima Adu Darko II, occupies the palace in defiance of the rulings.
“This is injustice. How can the rule of law mean nothing in our own land? How long must Asamankese suffer?” he asked, his voice heavy with emotion.
The family fears that if urgent steps are not taken, the deepening divide could explode into open conflict, further staining the peace and dignity of Asamankese.
