The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has issued a stern warning to the newly appointed Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Arthur Osei Akoto, to steer clear of land and chieftaincy disputes in the region.
According to the Asantehene, such issues are strictly under his traditional authority and not the mandate of the Ghana Police Service.
“Any chief or individual who brings land matters to you, direct them to me,” Otumfuo told the new commander when he called on the King at the Manhyia Palace on Wednesday, November 5, 2025.
He further instructed that any ongoing or emerging land conflicts be promptly reported to him for traditional intervention, emphasizing that the police must not be drawn into such sensitive matters.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II also charged DCOP Akoto to focus his energy on tackling crime, theft, and other social vices undermining peace and security in the Ashanti Region.
The new commander’s visit followed the formal introduction by his predecessor, COP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, who thanked the Asantehene for his blessings and guidance throughout his tenure. He was accompanied by Deputy Regional Commander Francis Kouame Somian, Manhyia Divisional Commander Chief Superintendent Frederick Hammond, and Ashanti Regional Police PRO DSP Godwin Ahianyo.
