Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu is calling for the immediate resignation of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, accusing him of failing in his duties in relation to the high-profile case involving former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, Kpebu confirmed he had been invited by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) but emphasised that he was not under investigation. According to him, the OSP only sought clarification about comments he had made in support of the anti-corruption fight.
Kpebu argued that Agyebeng’s own admissions about events on November 5 justify calls for him to step down. He said the Special Prosecutor acknowledged intercepting a letter written by Ofori-Atta to both the incoming and outgoing Chiefs of Staff before the former minister travelled.
He recounted that Agyebeng sought help from the National Investigations Bureau, National Security, and the Ghana Immigration Service, but none of the institutions provided support.
Kpebu described the situation as a serious indictment of the agencies involved but said the greater concern was the Special Prosecutor’s failure to make the matter public. He argued that Agyebeng should have immediately alerted the nation, especially after his earlier “Ankwanuma” press conference.
According to Kpebu, a public announcement would have mobilised action to prevent Ofori-Atta’s travel. He said his own ORAL team, which included influential security experts, could have intervened if they had been informed.
Kpebu insists that the Special Prosecutor’s silence and inaction amount to a breach of public trust and should compel him to resign.
