President John Dramani Mahama has cautioned individuals who hide behind the excuse of an alleged “order from above” to carry out unlawful acts, stressing that no authority exists outside the rule of law.
He warned that intimidation, land encroachment, or arbitrary actions—especially those carried out under the cover of darkness—will not be tolerated under his administration.
Speaking at the launch of the SheaPark Resource Hub in Wa in the Upper West Region on January 31, 2026, President Mahama reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting the rights and livelihoods of all citizens.
The SheaPark Resource Hub is a flagship initiative aimed at revitalising the Upper West economy through industrialisation and value addition in the shea sector, positioning the region as a key player in Ghana’s broader agro-industrial transformation agenda.
President Mahama was responding to reports of a purported directive to relocate a market in the Wa township—an action allegedly justified as having come “from above.”
Dismissing the claim, the President said such explanations are often used to legitimise wrongdoing.
“I heard some people say, ‘Oh, it’s directed from above,’ and they like using this phrase—‘from above, from above, from above.’ I don’t know who is up there,” he stated.
“Somebody goes and wants to take somebody’s land, and they say it’s directed from above. There’s no ‘above’ anywhere.”
He stressed that all actions must be grounded in law and due process, insisting that no individual or group has the authority to act outside the legal framework of the state.
