The Kingmakers of Poasi New Takoradi Akona Royal family say Nana Assafuah Kuma IV remained the only recognised chief for the community.
They have therefore urged the community to stand up and reject any intrusion by any segment of the community or family wishing to enstool a new king.
Abusuapanyin Kojo Mensah of the Royal family, the kinsmen and the Oman Committee within the Poasi community stated strongly at a community durbar on Sunday.
The team stated that Nana Assafuah Kuma IV, had been duly enstooled in 2020-“community is fully aware of a duly enstooled chief for the community since 2020”.
On July 25, 2020, the Poasi Akona Royal Stool Family, led by Ebusuapanyin Kojo Mensah and the Elders-in-Council, appointed Mr Bentil Appiah-Kubi to be enstooled as Nana Assafuah Kuma IV.
It said the enstoolment was subsequently performed by Safohen Kweku Essuon and the Asofo Company.
Nana Assafuah Kuma IV, had had his particulars, duly submitted also to the Sekondi Traditional council, the primate body for the necessary rites.
But on Sunday, September 13, 2026, a group of people claiming to belong to the Poasi Akona Royal Stool Family allegedly entered the Poasi Palace unannounced, accompanied by armed men, and attempted to enstool another chief.
The development created tension and confusion among residents, particularly families, women, children and the elderly.
Mr. Samuel Amissah, Secretary to the Poasi Oman Committee, therefore appealed to all stakeholders to help preserve peace in the Poasi-New Takoradi community.
The Committee appreciated the Western Regional Minister, Mr Joseph Nelson, and the Western Regional Police Command for their intervention, which it said helped restore calm to the community.
The Committee maintained that the Poasi community already had a duly enstooled chief, Nana Assafuah Kuma IV, and that there was therefore no need for another person to present himself as chief.
Mr. Amissah, therefore appealed to Nana Kobena Nketsia V, the President of the Western Regional house of Chiefs, the Sekondi traditional council,the Regional Security Council and well meaning citizens of the area to work together to stem the early warning signals before it escalated.
The Committee also appealed to the security agencies and traditional authorities to continue monitoring developments in the community and take appropriate steps to prevent a recurrence.
It reaffirmed its commitment to peace and stability in Poasi-New Takoradi and called on residents to remain calm while the relevant authorities addressed the matter.
