The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mrs. Elizabeth Afoley Quaye’s, dream of remaining in Parliament in 2021 is likely to suffer a jolt, as a contractor, Mr. Eric Ayikwei Okine, a.k.a Contractor, has filed nominations forms to contest her in the upcoming New Patriotic Party (NPP) primaries at the Krowor Constituency, in the Greater Accra Region.
Mr. Okine was accompanied by hundreds of delegatesto the party’s office at Nungualast Wednesday as a way of demonstrating his readiness for the position.
Information indicates that the executives believed the Minister has not lived up to expectations and could therefore cause the defeat of the party when retained as NPP Parliamentary Candidate (PC) for the constituency.
Addressing the media after filing of his nomination, Mr. Okine thanked the delegates for the confidence reposted in him and assured them of nothing but unity and hard works when elected.
He described himself as a unifier who can retain the parliamentary seat for the party as well as increase the presidential votes for President Akufo Addo in the 2020 general elections.
“I believe in the grassroots and am therefore ready to empower them enhancing the party’s victory in the 2020 general elections when elected as PC for the NPP in the constituency,” Mr. Okine said.
One of the delegates who spoke with this reporter, Nene Tetteh Kpene, disclosed their (the delegates) preparedness to vote massively for Mr. Okine, for victory.
He was optimistic Mr. Okine was the only person who could secure another victory for the NPP when chosen as their parliamentary candidate.
Mr. Kpene who doubles as the Secretary to the contractor indicated that a vote for the minister would surely bring defeat for the NPP in the general elections and underscored the need for everyone to rally behind Mr. Okine.
